Focus’ Internship program is designed to facilitate expanded provision of appropriate services in classrooms while providing training and supervision for therapists pursuing full independent licensure. Due to the need for highly qualified and committed staff to provide exemplary assessment and referral services and to serve the complex needs of our clients, we have structured a paid Internship program that affords our staff employment with the opportunity to gain clinical experience and hours toward full licensure.

Our program is in compliance with all requirements of relevant oversight agencies including the California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Behavioral Sciences. This means that Focus provides one hour of individual or two hours of group supervision for each ten hours of direct service.

Additionally, Focus Interns receive:

  • direct observation/supervision at least once per month,
  • ongoing consultation and oversight of any crisis intervention activities, and
  • opportunities to participate in other trainings offered through the agency including use of assessment tools, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, and Crisis Intervention and Prevention.

All supervision, including phone or email contact, observation, and formal supervision meetings is tracked on an ongoing basis. Weekly supervision meetings are recorded in a Supervision Meeting Log Form with notes of the primary topics of that particular meeting. Progress of supervision is reviewed with Interns on a monthly basis with mutual feedback on both process and content to ensure a meaningful and productive supervision experience.
